Emma & Chris

The Couple

1.Tell us a little about how you met

We met in 1st year of college thirteen years ago. We were living in the same apartment complex. The girls and myself were sitting on the balcony having a few drinks and the boys arrived back after a night out. One of the lads set us up on a date the next day, I cooked and the rest is history.

2.Talk us through the proposal (How did he/she pop the big question?)

He proposed in the Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow. He was going to do it in the gardens but he couldn't get through to my dad on the phone so he delayed it a few hours. We had an amazing dinner and we said we would go up to the suite for a while before the music was due to start in the bar. The Powerscourt use ESPA skin products which I love and I was chilling on the couch with a glass of red when he called me to say they left a basket of products on the bed for me. I jumped up ran across the suite & turned into the bedroom like Tom Cruise in Risky Business and there he was down on one knee... it was perfect!

The Setting

1.Where was your ceremony?

St. Senans Church Shanagolden, Co Limerick

2.Where was your wedding reception?

Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa

3. Why Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa?

I just knew the minute I walkd in the door that I wouldn't have a worry in the world. I always loved it there but when all the renovations were done it just made it even more perfect. Cathal is such a professional and provides an exceptional service but yet we had so much fun in the lead up and on the day. He's so relaxed and so organised. We did lots of negotiating - I used to say to him "I'm here to rise the blood pressure". He just made everything so simple. From our very first meeting until we went back a full year later to celebrate our anniversary Cathal and the rest of the team have been simply amazing.

4. Tell us what was the most memorable part of the day

I used to say to Chris all the time, I would give anything to have a fine day so people could sit outside and enjoy the fabulous terrace, the gardens and the views and to enjoy all Ballygarry has to offer. It is a venue that just speaks for itself in so many ways. One of the stand out memories of the day was when we arrived at the drinks reception, I walked out on to the terrace and everyone was sitting outside with the sunglasses on sipping away on the bubbly chatting and laughing. It was extremely heart-warming and is a feeling that I won't forget for a very long time.

5.Have you any advice for future couples?

It should not be a time for stress, try to enjoy ever moment of the planning and embrace it even if there are small bumps along the way. It all works out. Make it your own, don't be worrying about what everyone else wants, its your day. Trust the professionals, they know what they are doing. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. You can't control the weather so just go with it, take it all in and don't sweat the small stuff.
